With the positive impact vacuum toilet hire has had on the events industry, our latest guide focuses on vacuum toilets for your large-scale sporting events.
In our advice and information blog, we have often discussed portable vacuum toilets and the benefits they offer event organisers. However, at JB Event Facilities, we believe they are of particular relevance and use to the organisers of major sporting events, and here’s why.
What are vacuum toilets and how do they work?
A portable vacuum toilet is one type of portable trailer available to hire for a wide variety of public events.
Where a traditional portable toilet uses the same flush system as a domestic loo, a vacuum toilet removes waste using air pressure, instead of water. The waste is removed from the toilet and pumped to a waste tank.
Why vacuum toilets are popular with event organisers
Event organisers, and particularly eco-conscious event organisers, favour vacuum toilets for the following reasons:
Vacuum toilets save water – unlike their traditional flushing cousins, vacuum toilets do not use water to remove waste. The consequence of this is a massive reduction in water use, from up to 9 litres of water per flush for a traditional portable toilet, to just 0.8-1.0L for a vacuum toilet.
Vacuum toilets are chemical-free – as no water is used in the flushing system with a vacuum toilet, no chemicals need to be added to recycled waste water. This makes a portable vacuum toilet 100% chemical-free.
Eco-credentials aside, vacuum toilets also offer:
Reduced queues – as vacuum toilets need much less time to complete a full cycle, users can pass through more quickly. This allows more people to use the toilets in the same amount of time, reducing queues and creating a steady, almost constant flow of traffic through them.
Vacuum toilets are efficient – the presence of a macerator to break down waste matter in a flushing toilet system often contributes to blockages within the system which require technical support. As a vacuum toilet has no macerator, blockages occur less frequently, reducing the need for support.
Vacuum toilets need no downtime – traditional flushing toilets have to be taken out of service while being emptied which can impact on queueing times and user experience, leading to attendees waiting in line rather than being involved with the event. Technicians can empty the waste tank of a vacuum toilet pod in just 1-3 minutes, allowing the toilets to remain in service.
Vacuum toilets are hygienic – the reduced amount of water used in a vacuum toilet system means there is far less splashback for users, which contributes to the spread of disease.
Vacuum toilets can be mains connected – this reduces the need for ongoing servicing and maintenance throughout a multi-day hire.
What do vacuum toilets look like?
Your event attendees will have the same VIP experience with our vacuum toilet pods as they do with our luxury toilet trailers. Vacuum pods boast ceramic toilets and basins, spacious, well-stocked vanity areas and a high-end finish.
