According to the Family Resources Survey, in 2023-2024, one quarter of the UK population (16.8 million people approximately) was classed as disabled. This figure shows an increase of 2.7 million over the year 2019-2020. Given these figures, it is easy to see why it is of paramount importance for anyone organising or planning a public event, to ensure total accessibility to their event and compliance with the law.
Disability laws in the UK
There are two prevalent laws in the UK that event organisers should be aware of:
- The Equality Act 2010 – this replaced The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (although this still applies in Northern Ireland) and provides protections against discrimination. It applies to the provision of services to people with disabilities and encourages organiser to ensure events are accessible and inclusive.
- The Disability Act 2010 – sets out that any site attendee is protected in law by the right to access inclusive sanitation facilities, which it defines as a basic human right.

Our HDU is highly portable, with ramp access and is suitable for outdoor and temporary venues, and events of all sizes. The towable unit can be positioned on level ground and requires a water supply and a 16-amp/240V electric supply. For long term hire contracts, the HDU can be mains connected.
